There are other terms used to call Parkinson's Syndrome and such are Parkinsonism, atypical Parkinson's and secondary Parkinson's. This happens when there is an imbalance between the chemicals dopamine and acetylcholine. These two chemicals are associated with the conveying of signals from the brain. Uncontrolled and decreased movements, muscle stiffness and aberrant walking and stance may be the results of these chemicals'
imbalances.
The tremor or involuntary movement increases at times of stress and alleviates during times of spontaneous activities. It usually starts as an intermittent bending or buckling of toes and fingers as well as the mouth and face. The stiffness or rigidity is usually the same throughout the series of movement. The most crippling element of this ailment is hypokinesia, which diminishes muscular function of mobility.
On some cases, Parkinson's Syndrome is caused by toxins from the environment or drugs, most cases have no known underlying cause. Symptoms and signs of this disease are similar to those of Parkinson's. Treatment of this disease can be done through surgery and also with the help of medications.
Medication can provide aid to administer the brain's chemical imbalance. They improve effects of dopamine and cuts off the effect of acetylcholine. There are medications that aid the release of dopamine and there are others that specifically hinder the influence of acetylcholine. However,
these medications have side effects such as constipation, blurred vision, and dryness of the mouth, skin rashes, edema and urinary retention.
